Set in 1910, Georgetown Little Theatre’s production of Ring Round the Moon graced the stage in the fall of 2019 and was in need of a period-appropriate wheelchair. While we may have been able to rent from an antique dealer, we feared the demands of the production might be too hard on an antique. The solution, then, was to hybridize an 80s chrome wheelchair with a wicker rocking chair.
Using layers of paint to create a faux woodgrain, the original chrome was finally stained to match the wood of the wicker for a complete aesthetic. Custom arm rests were fashioned, as well as a foot rest that would both serve aesthetically as well as endure the rigours of a stage prop.
